Bio/Artist's Statement

Alex Mandala

My first true career began when I was 17. I learned the jewelry trade from a very talented mentor, mastering casting, stone setting, pearl stringing, engraving, etching, watch repair, and all the other "normal" functions of a jeweler in a jewelry store. Never being satisfied to sit for very long in one spot, I moved on to other creative endeavors including photography, advertising, graphic design, and sign design and manufacturing. I have built furniture and cabinets, done some welding, built houses, and played in rock bands. I have even recorded and released a CD of Native American flute music with 4 more in various stages of production.

But life seems to go full circle and here I am, making jewelry again! The only difference this time around is my skill set and creative bent. I do whatever I want, whenever I want to do it. My tastes are eclectic (an understatement) as you can see by the pieces here. For now, organic seems to be the way I see things, but knowing myself, probably not for long. I try not to box myself in and spend most of my time trying to control my creative imagination. For the first time in my life I am letting my creativity take on whatever vision and direction it wants to, using as many different materials as possible, and creating one of a kind wearable art.

I hope you enjoy browsing around my creations and, if you have questions or comments (negative or positive), please drop me a line.

Namaste,

Alex
